Abstract
The exchanges of materials and organisms between marine and lagoon habitats have been studied in an area comprising the Cabras lagoon, the connecting channel and an adjacent marine site of the Gulf of Oristano. The exchange of sediment particles and organisms between marine and lagoon habitats seemed to be rather limited indicating a high degree of confinement. We suggest that the presence of a dam in the southern part of the lagoon causes a major change in the sedimentary regime of the lagoon and strongly influence the spatial distribution of macrofauna.
